ABOUT US

Our History

The project has been operational in various forms since 1992.  We were based at Chapel Street for many years however we relocated last year to new premises where we continue to provide customers with affordable furniture to make their house a home.

What we do

The project delivers a much needed service for local people who are on low incomes or benefits, have chaotic lives or are struggling with life.  The Scottish Government has identified that the provision of furniture as a key factor in supporting vulnerable people to avoid homelessness. Furniture is a basic necessity for people and for those who are financially constrained, this service helps many local residents.  The communities of Maryhill, Ruchill and North Glasgow suffer from poverty and has a high level of benefits claimants.  The project helps tackles key social issues such as poverty through the provision of affordable household goods, social isolation through helping users created a liveable home and engaging with the project.

The project has a range of social, economic and environmental benefits as follows:-

  • Social - Targeted at socially excluded clients, creation and sustainment of volunteer opportunities within the community, tackling social isolation through provision of low cost furniture for those who can least afford to furnish their homes, building volunteers skills and confidence
